Concept

This is one of the only few films in the 'found footage' subgenre that is actually good (emphasis on 'good' not 'brilliant'). The young tombraider/ alchemy scholar Scarlett Marlowe is searching for Nicholas Flammel's Philosopher's Stone. The artifact is under the city of Paris in the Catacombs.

She is not alone though, and has help from George, her ex, the cameraman Benji, and a group of urban explorers; Papillon, Souxi and Zed. As they venture deep into the catacombs everything goes horribly wrong.

being chased by law enforcement, collapsing of certain areas, and so much more! There is a lot of facing morality in this movie as well and the final minute of the film has some of the best camera angle shots I have ever witnessed in a film.

The group must find a way out of the Catacombs and somehow live long enough. Can they find the Philosopher's Stone? Or will their madness consume them?

Review

This is not like Grave Encounters where that film was getting out of the situation As Above So Below is its own film, just based in the Catacombs of Paris. Finding the stone engulfs Scarlett and you find yourself being pulled between both parties, the crew wanting to leave and her finding the stone.

There's violence in the film and some of the more terrifying scenes come from the characters guilt themselves, their guilt in life is something that reaches to you.

This film was actually filmed in the catacombs themselves (with persmission). So the nervousness of the actors/actresses is genuine. There is a lot of claustrophobia in this movie too and Ben Feldman suffered throughout filming.

PewDiePie the YouTuber actually promoted the film by venturing into the dead city with his partner and got terrified.

This is a good film is starts off a little slow but doesn't take long to get into it, it's a film that has a lot happening in it and doesn't leave you watching a boring tour of the underground.
