Concept

Rocky needs to take her little sister and escape their neglectful mother and her alcoholic boyfriend. She wants to take her sister to California. Alex's father owns a security company and so he knows his ways around the system and the laws. Money sells items but doesn't believe his payment is fair.

So how are they connected? Because they burglar homes and sell the items in Detroit, Michigan.

Moneys contact reveals a home in an abandoned, rundown area of town where an army vet is very well off from a court case when a rich girl killed his daughter in a car accident. They soon discover the man is blind and believe that this job is going to be a piece of cake.

Later that evening they break in, and discover that this helpless blind man, is more than they could have ever imagined. You have to see it to believe it. Can all three of them manage to escape with the cash?

Review

I freaking loved this movie. It doesn't take long to get going into the story but it isn't rushed. What I love about this film is the characters moral ambiguity, there is not one morally good character in this film. It really greys the area between 'good guy' and 'bad guy'.

The blind man is incredibly ruthless, but he is not a psychopath, as I said there is no clear morals in this film. To them they are escaping but need the money, to him he is surviving a break in and trying to stop them from leaving.

The army vets dog is absolutely terrifying, a protective rottweiler it brings out the helplessness of the films. It's a film that throws you in every direction, how do they escape this room? Is that character actually dead? Who manages to survive the burglars or the blind man?

If you haven't seen Don't Breathe I urge you to it was one of the best films of 2016. Now I'm going to be honest I don't even know if this film can technically be classed as a hidden gem but it's certainly worth seeing.

Stay Horrific!
