Concept
It is the Easter holidays, and a group of medical students go to a cabin near a place called Oksfjord. An area of Norway right all the way up north touching the Norwegian Sea. The cabin is owned by one of the groups girlfriends, they begin to party until they hear a mysterious damning knock on the door. A hiker with questionable manners comes into the cabin. He begins to tell them the story of the area...
During WW2 deployment groups under the administration of the dreaded SS took over Oksfjord. Known for the torture and mass killings of civilians the townsfolk suffered. When the Germans began losing the war the Nazis stole all the valuables, killing anyone who dared stand in their way. It was at this time the townsfolk ambushed the Nazis in an uprising, and chased them into the mountains to their doom.
The hiker leaves, giving them fair warning to be respectful of the dark history the town carries. The students then find a box of treasure stored underneath the floorboards and are then attacked the by undead. Stranded in the mountains, isolated, being picked off one by one, can the group manage to survive, or will the just lay dead in the snow?
Review
Only having seen this film in it's entirety recently, knowing of the film it was a delight to finally sit through it. The comedy is this is quite fun, a WW2 joke with a hammer and sickle made me double over in laughter. Also including the most disgusting and uncomfortable sex scene I have seen in a while the movie was enjoyable nonetheless.
Dead Snow is set in Oksfjord but was filmed in Alta and Malselv. The film has plenty of gore to sink your teeth into. This is not a typical 'virus' zombie but an old fashioned 'cursed' zombie. Something we don't see very often anymore, which is a shame.
The film was/is regarded as mediocre but trust me it's not perfect but it is a good twist on zombie movies. If you enjoy Wrong Turn you will enjoy Dead Snow. There is a sequel as well; Red vs Dead.
